From one extreme to the other

After six days of racing, and three low pressure areas on their route, the Transat Jacques Vabre fleet has visibly suffered. The return of the famous quizzes from Kito de Pavant in the overnight messages and the cheerful voice of Groupe Bel's skipper this lunchtime, during a special radio contact with the Mediterranean training center in La Grande Motte, are a sign of better days.

Message from on board - Start of Act II

They've cut the fire hoses! It's odd to no longer have tons of water pouring down on our heads! As a result it feels like we've stopped. The die is cast to the East!

Nearly 600 miles have been devoured in 48 hours! The high pace exit from the English Channel is a done deal and already the initial strategic choices are taking shape. They showed us this, this afternoon. At 15:00, sailing in a twenty knot southeasterly, Groupe Bel was the quickest to set off from the starting line of the Transat Jacques Vabre. Downwind under mainsail with one reef and...

Plenty of action and questions!

At Le Havre, the Paul Vatine dock quays are almost empty. Everything is quiet on board the boats, but there's plenty of thinking going on at Groupe Bel's chart table! Kito de Pavant, Yann Régniau and Gwen Gbick, sports manager, are considering the routing... 25, 35 knots southeast, the choice of sails and key moments are already being anticipated, and they are getting into the race. The...
