Transat Jacques Vabre

Kito and Yann
The race

The Transat Jacques Vabre is due to start on 30 October 2011. It is an event organized by Pen Duick with the participation of the City of Le Havre and that of Puerto Limon, in Costa Rica. The skippers will race 4,730 miles in this 10th Transat Jacques Vabre. The Costa Rican minister and local sports associations, in collaboration with the National Union for Offshore Racing, will also be taking part in the organization of this transatlantic race. This event is sponsored by Kraft.

The skipper, Kito de Pavant, has chosen one of his partners, Yann Régniau, to sail with him in this double-handed race.

Yann Régniau

Regatta racer, sailmaker and designer with North Sails France for 12 years, Yann Régniau belongs to the family of those great, talented, discreet professionals who know their art inside out. The cream of offshore racing, on seas all over the world, seeks the services of this indispensable sailmaker. “Above all, to be a good sailmaker you need to know how to listen to the skipper,” explains this true man from Morbihan, who works in Vannes, 300 meters from where he grew up. “Yann was one of the first to be involved in the project when the Groupe Bel monohull came into being in late 2006,” explains Kito. “Like a car's engine, sails are what provide the power and the chassis, or in this case the hull, is adapted accordingly.”

First Transat Jacques Vabre
For Yann, it will be his very first time sailing in the Transat Jacques Vabre. So the skipper from Vannes has already taken up position on the starting blocks: "I do two to three hours of sport per day: cycling and muscular strengthening at the gym". Having already raced hundreds of miles with Kito, Yann is confident that they will get on well: “I am sure that things will work out well between us".  Although he admits to feeling pressure, he has great faith in the yacht's potential and is ready to take on this great challenge, the Transat Jacques Vabre.
