It has been three days since we arrived in Egypt and there hasn't been a moment's rest for the Groupe Bel crew. There is a packed schedule with Bel Egypt, and this scarcely leaves enough time to enjoy the pleasures of the city, if they exist. There is so much noise, stuffy heat and a concert of car horns that contrast strongly with the relative calm of sailing off shore.
The day after our arrival, after having sorted out administrative formalities, secured the boat’s moorings in the middle of the East Port of Alexandria and briefed our guardian angel, called LILI (which my daughter would like), we offered our hosts two short trips lasting a few hours under sail in front of the city which extends for about twenty kilometres. The Egyptians look for relatively cool places. We were grateful for 37°, when, in fact, is was 45°in Cairo!
Yesterday, it was my turn to visit the Bel workers in their factory located in the South East of Cairo. This was a distance of 700 km by car, but what a warm welcome; worthy of the one we had last year in Tangier!
Thank you for everything Thayeb and all the Bel workers for organizing these 3 days. This very special day gave me a true idea of what Egypt is with its contrasts, its mineral light, the capital that touches on the pyramids of Giza, mini tornados, mechanical diggers, and the difficulties of a people who attempt, with their strengths, to hold their own place in this cruel world.
