"Is there a narrow band to the north? Everything would lead one to say no! If there is one, then Groupe Bel has got a horn in. However, to get a cow, a Figaro, a tall Seb and a Kito through a mouse hole at the same time, they are all going to have to drive hard!
We have just come about. It's coming from the south west. After our stopover in the Canaries, we took the decision to go north to sail round the col. Since then the charts have changed. We can't go round, so we're going to have to cross it. It's a little hard to take.
We're tacking to try and find a narrow band through which we can pass. We have a small chance of catching the leading wind down south. Afterwards we will finish up under spinnaker in a weaker wind than the southerners.
The option we took was not fruitful. We have no regrets; we did what we had decided to do after the stop in the Canaries. It was hard to come back from behind. We tried our luck, at the last moment. Up to now this has always paid off."
