From the "Giraglia" to the Sharing Smiles Regatta

Groupe Bel crossed the finishing line of the great Giraglia Rolex Cup 2010 race last Thursday, in 15 hours 46 minutes. Kito and his crew completed the 241 miles of this route between Saint-Tropez, the rock of Giraglia located to the north of Corsica and the Italian port of San Remo in sixth position in real time, which is one place better than in 2009. A fine result since 220 competitors were at the starting line of the race on Wednesday and well known ones at that!

In changeable weather, with a varying wind of about 30 knots shortly after the start in Saint-Tropez and non-existent after Corsica, the Groupe Bel crew was able to test the 60 footer's new set of sails; the ones that will be used this autumn for the Route du Rhum. "This Giraglia was a wonderful trial run for us," said the skipper a few minutes after the finish. "Even though there is still some tuning to be done, this latest generation of sails is really very good and from a general point of view, Groupe Bel is behaving wonderfully."

Everyone is heading to Port Camargue in a few days!

Next Friday, Kito will sail with thirty crews or so, made up of nearly 150 Groupe Bel workers, from 21 countries, for the Smiles Regatta (24 to 27 June in Port Camargue).

"This will be a great moment. We have been preparing and waiting for this for weeks," says Kito enthusiastically. "It really moves me to know that all these people are coming to see where I live, where I discovered my passion and where I share it with my team around the 60 foot Groupe Bel. The programme of festivities at sea and also ashore promises three really unforgettable days. We are impatiently waiting for the Bel boys and girls! »
