Groupe Bel left Port-Camargue 8 days ago and is continuing her journey to Saint-Malo. As one day follows another, each one is different for Kito and his crew: swell, grey skies, and a wild sea, following the trade winds and the mild Mediterranean climate.
These last days there has been wind and rain, and Groupe Bel has been running at an average speed of 20 knots off the coast of Portugal. Naturally this contrasts slightly with the slack wind, and flat calm and the dolphins they met off the south of Spain.
This Monday morning Kito said: “The Bretons are going to be happy. We’re bringing the sun and the Mistral with us. In the meantime, we’re not quite so happy, since we have to beat to windward in a 25/30 knot strong wind and a rough and very short sea. We’re getting shaken, bumped about, wet and we’re heeling. So it isn‘t exactly wonderfully comfortable, far from it, and it’s going to take me an hour to type this text! We will be arriving in Brest towards the end of the night for a short technical stopover. The logistics have been set up so that we can change the sails as quickly as possible (2 days, nonetheless) and head off to St. Malo on Thursday night.”
Before doing this, however, Kito you will have to get to the tip of Brittany. You can expect a damp night. We can’t promise you the trade winds here, and even less dolphins!
