We crossed the equator at around 23:00 this the night. So we'll be staying nearly 2 months with our heads upside down in the southern hemisphere, at the end of which we will cross it again in almost the same place, give or take a few miles.
Our sail through the doldrums went well. Just one thunderstorm as we went in and a little calm today as we came out. During it we maintained a regular speed and made little change to the sails. That’s perfect.
We are now close hauled in an easterly wind that is having difficulties staying consistent.
A long, indeed very long port tack awaits us (for at least 10 days), almost full south, before side-stepping the generous arms of St. Helena and coming under the influence of the lows of the Great South.
We have also made note of the Barcelona’s change of course leaving Gough Island starboard. You’re probably wondering where this island is. I didn’t even know of its existence before. Well, it’s lost in the middle of nowhere, and that’s exactly where we’re going!
