Kito is currently busy on all fronts! On the schedule, there is, of course, sport to keep him in shape. But above all, he has to prepare for a particularly busy season: choice of crew for the Europa Race, logistics, meetings with the various partners and suppliers. Everything needs to be finished before the launch planned for end March, which will mark the start of training.
This month, Groupe Bel’s skipper also paid a visit to his gear supplier, Marinepool, during the Düsseldorf Boat Show in Germany, to prepare his new special sailing gear for “the Vendée Globe”. Keeping dry and warm during the round the-world is one of the keys to success. News from the South (Pole)
Single-handed sailing is a real team sport. Surrounded by his team, Kito makes comments about the workings of Groupe Bel, while the technicians implement the solutions that will improve the monohull’s performance. This is not easy during this particularly cold spell.
“The polar temperatures which prevail in the south of France are unusual and make the work being carried out on Groupe Bel for the last few weeks rather complicated. We had to look for stratagems to heat the various coatings, bondings, and resins, to ensure they would harden. Despite everything, the work is progressing. The modifications made to the ballasts are coming to a close and we will soon be able to get on with the finishes and painting.”
