These days a professional racer is obliged to acquire all the talents of a good sailor, but also those of a meteorologist, mechanic, telecommunications engineer and, on land as well, an accountant, good communicator and, of course, team manager. Naturally, nobody expects him to be an expert in all these fields but, above all to know all the right people. Even if Kito today has a team of six people around him for the sporting and technical aspects, he can similarly count on the support of the internal resources mobilized from the very beginning of the project, by his partner Bel.
The internal communication program is a pillar of the Bel sponsoring project, which aims to involve 10,000 Group workers at the centre of this unusual experience of human interest. From the very start, the employees have thrilled to the salty adventures of Bel and Kito.
Kept informed by SMS, thanks to Intrabel or on thewww.beltchiztour.comsite they miss nothing. Thanks to contests, the winners were able to have first-hand knowledge of the races by being present for their departures. During the crossings, notice boards set up on these sites made it possible to track Groupe Bel’s route and that of her opponents on a daily basis. Every year, Kito comes to meet the Bel workers in their workplace as well creating special moments of exchange. An inseparable episode in the Bel Tchiz Tour 2007-2010, the boat is the link joining up the different Bel subsidiaries worldwide. The skipper and his crew are going to sail from continent to continent in order to share their adventures with more and more people.
A first - Thumbs up for Kito Operation!
Since spring 2007, the Bel workers’ enthusiasm has been revealed in an exceptional way with the “Thumbs up for Kito” Operation. In a first ever, meaningful gesture, over 3,000 workers have left their thumbprint on the Groupe Bel mast. In the different factories that Kito has visited, the thumbprints have been collected on postcards using an inkpad, along with the name of the workers and the name of his site. All the associates worldwide can join the operation thanks to the E-Coup de Pouce (E-Thumbs up) available on Intrabel, the Group’s intranet.
An unusual approach was adopted by Bel in the procedural methods for the sponsoring project. At the start of the project in September 2006, the Group brought together a team of managers from different branches in order to support Kito on a day-to-day basis in his exhilarating but nonetheless demanding task. The team members are
Hubert Mayet, Antoine Fievet, Eric Cothenet, Isabelle Jacquet, Guillaume Jouët, Franck Yann Bourreau, Stéphane Paillot, Richard Forsans, Julie Screpel and Pauline Rivard, Ranging from matters of finance to legal questions, from communication to industrial development, everyone brings his own savoir-faire to the project with enthusiasm and professionalism. This strict, real and daily collaboration, which exists between the two worlds, that of the race and that of the workers of a group of universal renown, gives a particular dimension to the whole adventure.
Single-handed sailing is still a team sport. Kito has surrounded himself with people to support him on the technical, logistic and administrative levels of the venture. As with any choice facing a skipper, the casting was carried out both by pragmatism and feeling.
